Performance art

Performance art is a form of contemporary art in which the artist’s action itself becomes the artwork.

It is not a painting and not music in the traditional sense.
It is a moment, a gesture, a presence, an experience.
Short and to the point:
The artist = the artwork

Body, voice, time, and space are the main tools

Often without a stage, without boundaries, without “comfort” for the viewer
Why performance art?
To shake things up

To ask a question rather than give an answer

To reveal vulnerability, pain, protest, silence, absurdity

To break the boundary between the viewer and the artist

An important point
In performance art, you don’t have to be pleasant.
Sometimes it is:
humiliation

silence

repetition

strangeness

discomfort
And that is exactly why it gets noticed.
Why performance art often attracts more attention than “pure” art

the viewer sees a living human being, not a “product”
